CHALLENGE
On June 28, 2024, on the eve of Sławomir Mrożek’s birthday, the Kraków Library opened a memorial room dedicated to this outstanding writer, playwright, illustrator, and one of the most recognizable Polish artists of the 20th century. The space, located in the Main Library at 2 Powroźnicza Street, has been filled with authentic items that belonged to the author, creating a unique place of remembrance and engagement with his work.
The challenge was to create an exhibit that would not only capture visitors’ attention but also symbolically bring the figure of Sławomir Mrożek to life. The goal was to find a solution that would combine a traditional museum exhibition with modern technologies, encouraging future generations of visitors to learn about the writer’s life and work.
SOLUTION
The solution to this challenge turned out to be the use of LEDHOLO holographic technology. An LEDHOLO MatrixX 1.3NC.72 display was installed in the writer’s study, on which a hologram of Sławomir Mrożek—created based on archival photographs of the author—is displayed.
The Master’s digital likeness greets visitors with his characteristic, subtle wink, creating an incredibly evocative sense of presence and serving as a natural invitation to explore his world. The hologram has become an integral part of the exhibition, blending history, literature, and modern technology.
At the same time, new features are being added to the project. Plans include the implementation of the LEDHOLO Smart Control system, which will allow visitors to interact with a digital representation of the writer and listen to selected excerpts from his works, as well as comments and materials related to the life and work of Sławomir Mrożek.
RESULT
Sławomir Mrożek’s hologram quickly became one of the most recognizable elements of the exhibition. The installation captures visitors’ attention, evokes emotions, and encourages them to explore the author’s body of work more closely. Thanks to the use of LEDHOLO technology, the traditional exhibition space has taken on a modern dimension that effectively engages both literature lovers and first-time library visitors.
The project has also become an effective tool for promoting the institution and the exhibition itself. One example is a report published by Radio Kraków titled: „Mrożek’s hologram will invite us into Mrożek’s study… The writer’s study opens Friday at the Kraków Library.”.
The project demonstrates that holographic technology can play a much greater role than simply serving as a visual attraction. It allows for building an emotional connection with audiences, bringing culturally significant figures to life, and creating modern educational experiences that effectively combine literary heritage with the possibilities of contemporary communication.
