3D scan vs 3D model. Learn about the possibilities and limitations.

There are many reasons why our clients need a faithful representation of existing and future products and their variants, down to the smallest detail. At Ledholo, we create models of various objects of any size and in the 3D modeling process we give them the desired colors and textures, adapting the model to the individual needs of our clients.

The question is often asked "Isn't it easier to do a scan?" Sure, it's easier, but the scan itself doesn't give you full control over what and how you want to show it! Learn the basic differences and find out what you can achieve with scanning and what with 3D modeling.

The effect of 3D scanning is one whole - a solid that cannot be broken down into individual elements. The consequences are that we cannot work on each element of our structure. Therefore, we will not give them any colors or textures other than the original ones. We can only achieve this by creating a 3D model. And only then do we gain full control over the color or texture of each element of our structure individually.

Let's follow the entire 3D scanning and modeling process using the example of a photo of a sports shoe that we received from one of our clients. Creating a 3D scan allowed us to obtain a three-dimensional effect and show the object from all sides. But it did not make it possible to change the colors and textures of individual elements of the shoe, which was what the client wanted.

Creating a 3D model and disassembling our object into individual components allows us to change the color of the smallest detail of our object - in this case, a shoe. It also gives you complete control over the texture of the sole or lace. To sum up - only thanks to a 3D model we are able to show the object precisely, in the smallest details.

Therefore, if you want to accurately show a given object, all its properties, materials from which it is made, their textures and colors, we strongly recommend creating a 3D model. Only in this way you will be able to accurately show the recipient all the features of the presented object.
